Effective Treatment of AIDS with Generic Retrovir, Zidovudine Oral Solution Part 1

Generic Generic Retrovir is a medicine working against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The generic name of this drug is zidovudine. This drug is used together with other anti Generic Retroviral agents to treat HIV infection. This medication is also used to stop an HIV-infected woman from passing the virus to her baby. It doesn't cure HIV or AIDS but treats the disease. This drug is offered in various forms such as tablets, capsules, and syrup.
Contraindication
Generic Retrovir should not be given to patients who have developed serious allergic reactions (such as, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and anaphylaxis) to any of the constituents of the formulations.
Dosage and Administration
To treat HIV-1 infection in adults, the recommended dosage is 600 mg/day in divided doses with other antiretroviral drugs. For pediatric patients between the age group of 4 weeks to < 18 years, the dose should be determined according to the body weight not to go above adult dose.
To prevent maternal-fetal HIV-1 transmission, the drug is given to both pregnant women and neonates. The dose is determined depending on total body weight of the patient. Patients with severe anemia and/or neutropenia may not be able to use this drug. In hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis patients, a dose of 100 mg every 6 to 8 hours has been recommended. Zidovudine has to be taken just as your doctor has approved it for you.
